ORIENT BEACH STATE PARK has 45,000 feet of frontage on Gardiner's Bay A beautiful wood deck lets you overlook Gardiner's Bay. A rare maritime forest with red cedar, black-jack oak trees and prickly-pear cactus. Visitors can swim in the bay, salt water fishing, picnic, play ball, go hiking or biking, or walk a nature trail. Kayak/canoe access April-October

MILL ROAD PRESERVE is a 27-acre parcel. The two main trails wind through about 9 acres of grassland/shrubland and 18 acres of mature woodland. More info/photos

is a 51-acre wooded parcel that is the site of Ft. Corchaug, a Native American fort, which is listed on the National Park Register of Historic Places. GOLDSMITH INLET PARK is a 35-acre parcel with a 1/2 mile trail leading to Long Island Sound, from the trailhead, located on Soundview Avenue. The mature woodlands, tidal wetlands, Goldsmith Inlet Pond and 1500 feet on L.I. Sound are great for bird-watching. More info/photos

is a 36-acre reserve owned by the Town of Southold and Suffolk County Parks. The reserve encompasses a small, protected bay, maritime scrubland, grasslands, tidal flats, saltwater marshes and mature woodlands. The trail that wanders through the reserve is 1.2-miles long. More info/photos
